Turn live at Cyprus Avenue

Turn lead singer Ollie Cole, originally uploaded by docaoimh.

Turn played Cyprus Avenue on Saturday 8th of October. This was my first time seeing them live and I must say I was well impressed. I have heard a lot of their earlier music but even their new music sounds great. Slide guitarist Clive Barnes came on stage for 2 songs with the lads. Another name I see regularly on Cork Gigs but have never seen live. I have a few pics of him here and here.

For more info and blogs check out their MySpace.

A quick mention about the support acts. Dwight got the night off to a rocking start. Click here to download some of their tracks. I had heard about this band before and I was surprised at the range of songs they played. Very often, support acts aren’t up to much and I’m glad when they finish up but Dwight left the audience wanting more. The one downside of their gig (and I’m being picky) was the unfortunate habit of the lead guitar to go out of tune. This kinda ruined what is a great song in “Gardening” which you can download here. One to keep an eye on for the future. For more see

Stars of the City also played but their type of music wasn’t really my cup of tea.  Thankfully a drunken old mosher kept us amused during their set.
