Cork Jazz Festival 2005
November 1st, 2005 Posted in Ireland, Live Music, MusicSo, yet another wet and windy jazz festival has come and gone in Cork. The trio above, Valdmann, Smith and Baus, played in the Spailpin on Friday and Saturday night and for free! These guys play some very enjoyable relaxed music. Smith on piano played an amazing solo song and the song title escapes me at the moment but what a voice! If anybody knows, leave a comment.
I also went to the Imperial hotel on Sunday night where Cartoon, The Roaring Forties, Doubletime and Kickback Djs were playing. There were 2 rooms but all the jazz was in the main ballroom. Things started slowly with Doubletime DJ Gary Baus setting the scene. Then the Roaring Forties kicked things off with a great live act. Unfortunately, the crowd had left their dancing shoes at home at this stage, or else not enough Guinness products were consumed. The energetic Roaring Forties got the crowd warmed up for the main act. The night was completed with, as their bio puts it, a “fusion of jazz, soul and funk with house music through Cartoon’s scintillating live performances.”
