Sultans of Ping Live

I was at the Sultans gig last night in Club One, and what a gig it was! The dance floor was absolutely crammed all night for the Sultans with one security guard up front trying to hold people back. I hope he gets paid well!
All the old tunes were churned out without missing a note. “Kick me with your leather boots”, “You talk too much” and of course in the encore we were asked if we wanted to hear a “chart hit”, we were told we “couldn’t leave the place without hearing a chart hit”. Well we didn’t as the boys played “Where’s me jumper” in fine style.
One of the funny points was when a crowd surfer kicked the disco ball off the roof and it started crowd surfing! Damn, that thing was heavy. It eventually went flying off the dance floor; I briefly saw someone dodge out of the way as it came in their direction.
It’s good to see the old rivalry with the Franks is still alive as they were mentioned at one point
.
As mentioned previously, the Sultans play the Savoy tonight and back again in Club One tomorrow night.
The previous post also refers to Turnip Fish, where everybody gets on the ground to dance to this. This duly happened last night and I got a few pics of this.
I got my hands on the Casual Sex in the Cineplex cd for a tenner. I heard that there are only 1000 of these re-issued so if you’re going to the gig, buy it!

Sylvia Saint kicked off the night. They sounded fairly class but as soon as they started playing I knew I would be deaf after the gig. But it was worth it

Nice one Donal, I wasn’t at Cork but went to Dublin and Belfast, outstanding shows. I think the Dublin one was the best one I’ve ever seen them do. I have put up some videos here if anyone wants them: http://www.redpenguin.net/blog/2005/12/its-punky-bubble-dream-christmas.php

Cheers Paul. You got some great photos over there. Plus I hadn’t heard the Christmas Bubblegum Machine song before.

Nice pics donal. Mental gig — the wandering disco ball had me in fits of laughter. Here’s a few pics taken by a lad who was in my class in college:

Cheers Mike. Some very good photos there.
I’d imagine the guy who was almost hit by the disco ball on its way out was laughing too loudly
