Cork On Ice – The Verdict

November 27th, 2007 Posted in Ireland

Yesterday evening I headed along to the first of two ice-rinks to open in Cork for the Christmas period, Cork On Ice out in Little Island.  I have been looking forward to this for a while, I’m a rubbish ice-skater but I really enjoy it.  Overall I have no major gripes with the place but there are certainly good and bad points about this venue.

The ice-rink itself is a decent size at 450m², although it got a bit busy at the 7:30pm session.  Up until tomorrow evening it’s only €10 to go skating  but it goes up after that and is more expensive at the weekend.  I expect it to get more crammed as time goes on so be prepared to book in advance.

I am blessed with big feet, size 13 to be precise, but Cork on Ice only have skates up to size 12.  Sure you might say that they shouldn’t have to cater for freaks of nature such as myself but a couple of size 13’s wouldn’t go astray.  My feet were a wee bit sore after it so I don’t think I’ll go as often as I had expected.

They have plenty of staff on-hand to help people up after falling, myself included after I was rammed by a young wan.  A member of staff followed me closely for a while obviously thinking it had been my fault.

I’ll go again but like I said not as often as I hoped to.  I’ll have to see if Santa’s Palace, which is opening on December 7th, have any extra large skates!

How did you find it?

Cheers Bill, actually meant to update this to say I was there on Sat morning and the new boots were the job. I will be there again this evening at 630 but unfortunately only as an on-looker as I twisted my ankle playing football last night :(
