The Moths at Cyprus Avenue
January 3rd, 2008 Posted in Cyprus Avenue, Ireland, Live Music, Music, Photography, corkgigsThe Moths opened up at the most recent Melting Pot gig in Cyprus Avenue back on December 18th. As usual with these gigs, I hadn’t heard of any of the bands on the night but that only adds to the sense of anticipation. The Moths lead-singer Irene O’Connell pictured above is a dab hand at the piano and her voice is reminiscent of the fantastic Aimee Mann, however the songs are much more upbeat in case that puts you off them!
There are some more pictures in the full set should you want to see more. The Moths have an album coming out, presumably this year, called Where You Find Peace and going by the songs they have posted on their MySpace it should be a good one.
In other interesting news, I was speaking to the one and only Don O’Mahony from Cork paper Evening Echo and I have featured in the “Who the hell goes to…” page in the Downtown section tonight. They even have a picture of my ugly mug so be sure to rush out and buy it.
And finally, if you’re still reading this, the next Melting Pot gig is on January 8th which is next Tuesday in Cyprus Avenue as usual. It only costs €7 and you get to see Rarely Seen Above Ground, Pocket Promise and Sounds of the Revolution.

Some really good action shots! I like the one of the guy playing the guitar that is sort of half in the dark.
