Valentine’s Week and Not All Loved Up

I just heard that The Chalets have announced their break-up. I have only seen them live once but they put on a great show that time. It’s a shame that they’re going their separate ways but it just shows how hard it is for bands to make any sort of living out this business. To be honest, I go to a lot of gigs and I wonder how a lot of them could survive on their music alone. Don’t get me wrong, they might play some excellent music but if they can’t fill venues on a regular basis and sell a truckload of CDs/merchandise, how can you justify it from a business point of view? I’d like to think that they’re not in it for the money but there must come a time when enough is enough. I have no idea why The Chalets have split but it’s sad to see them go. Their departure will leave a similar hole as when Turn finished up.
In other news today, Cork band Hooray for Humans have announced that Aine is leaving the band. There’s mention on their MySpace of commitments to touring and such. Whatever the reasons, best of luck to Aine in the future and hope to see H4H in Cork in whatever guise they come under. I have them in Mitchelstown and at their album launch just late last year so hopefully they can re-group and keep the great music going.
In other news, I’m off on hols for the week so things may be quiet around here (especially if you’re a judge from the Irish Blog Awards and you’re looking for regularity of posting!!
