Paddy Casey at the INEC
April 2nd, 2008 Posted in Ireland, Live Music, Music, PhotographyPaddy Casey played New Year’s Eve at the INEC in Killarney following a fantastic performance by Jack L. I haven’t seen Paddy Casey for quite a long time; one of the first times I saw him was upstairs in Nancy Spains on Barrack St in Cork which was quite packed at the time following the launch of his debut album. A long time passed before another album came along and Paddy fell from the public eye but thankfully he’s back and here to stay by the looks of things. I actually saw him in Heuston Station in Dublin once in the newsagents but didn’t have the nerve to go up to him. He was probably wondering why the lanky fecker (well lanky to him, he’s quite small!) was looking at him. According to his MySpace Paddy is on a tour of the States until early summer so don’t expect to see him anytime soon!
Jack L even came out after midnight and sang a few songs.
Lots more photos over on Flickr in the full set.

Hi, i got to your site through oss237.com and i must say i really like this set. The streams of light are spectacular!
I must ask, do you get yourself passes to gigs to take photos? If so, how did you go about it? Id love to expand myself into the major live event scene.

Hi Ray, thanks for the comments. I was pretty happy with these shots, the lighting helps though!
I asked for permission to shoot here (on their website) as I had been down there the month before at the Stereophonics and the bouncer wouldn’t let me in with the camera which is fair enough. Bigger venues don’t tend to let people in with SLRs if they haven’t OK’ed it first. This time around the bouncers were sound and didn’t stop me going up front in front of everyone else. Most of my stuff is in smaller venues but it was interesting to do a bigger venue like this.
Unless the act has a problem with photographers, venues are usually fine with it but it helps to ask beforehand.
