The Kinetiks at Indie-Pendence in Mitchelstown

August 5th, 2008 Posted in Ireland, Live Music, Music, Photography, corkgigs

The Kinetics were one of the surprise acts of the weekend at this year’s Indie-Pendence Festival in Mitchelstown. I had never heard of them but they have a great sound and are sure to go far. You could even say they have a lot of potential after putting on a fantastic energetic performance (all puns intentional and well-meant). Lead-singer Gaz Harding could be mistaken for lead singer of The Strokes Julian Casablancas but this is where they need to be careful. Ireland has plenty of bands capable of emulating this style of music with the likes of The Blizzards putting more of a ska element into their music and Delorentos creating luscious melodies. The Kinetiks are in the same field as these two bands who have already done quite well but it’ll be interesting to see how The Kinetiks make their mark.

Great stuff Donal, really clean, bright pics of the lads! Glad you liked them, it’s good that you mention the iconic kinda style they have and question its longevity as many others have voiced the same concerns. However they’ve been around for quite a while, I shot the photos for their EP High Horse Olympics in early 2007 and they really made a massive impact over the last year. Keep yer ears tuned for more :)
