Aaron Dillon Album Launch at the Triskel

Aaron Dillon at the Triskel (Album Launch)

Aaron Dillon launched his debut album Brown Envelope last night in a packed Triskel Arts Centre. We were lucky to get in as we were late and missed a great support act by all accounts.  I’ve been looking forward to this album for ages, almost all the songs are familiar having seen Aaron Dillon play a few times, the first being when he supported Mick Flannery in the Opera House and more recently in The Roundy.  Mick Flannery came on and accompanied for a few songs during the set which was a nice touch.

The album itself is well produced with a good mixture of haunting songs and more upbeat banjo-backed tracks to have you slapping your knees in time.  The guitar arrangement and interplay between Aaron and Dave Hackett is fantastic and a joy to watch live.  They are playing in Drogheda on May 29th and back in Cork for a charity gig on the 12th of June in The Whisky.  If last night is anything to go by, get along to one of these if you can.  I’m not sure how widely distributed the album is but I’d say keep an eye on his MySpace for more info.  This album, along with Ian Whitty’s forthcoming album, are already looking like albums of the year for me.
